Fire Door Acceptance Inspection — 45-Story Office Tower
Robert, this is the final fire door inspection. There are 320 fire doors in this building — all rated FD60 or FD120 per the fire strategy. I'll sample 10% — 32 doors. Critical checks: rating label visible on hinge edge, intumescent strip continuous on all four sides, leaf-to- frame gap 2-4mm, door self-closes and latches from any open position, frame mortared solid. Let's start with the stairwell doors on floors 5, 15, 25, and 35.

Rating label present. Intumescent strip good. Checking gaps — 2mm feeler gauge passes on latch side. 4mm gauge also passes. The gap on the latch side is over 4mm. Fail.

Let me check the record... this door was installed by the night shift. They used a single 6mm shim instead of stacked shims. Easy fix — re-shim to 3mm. I'll have it done within the hour.

Label, seals, gaps all good. Closing test: (opens door to 90°, releases) Door closes but does NOT latch. Handle turns freely — latch bolt not engaging strike. Fail. A fire door that doesn't latch is a door, not a fire door. Positive stairwell pressure in a fire will push it open.

Window Water Penetration Test — Residential Tower, 860 Windows
Wang Jian, water penetration test per ASTM E1105. 860 windows total. Testing 5% random — 43 windows. Spraying at 3.4 L/min/m² with 75 Pa negative pressure inside — simulating wind-driven rain. Any water on the interior sill or frame is a fail. Level 12, Window W-12-08 first.
按ASTM E1105淋水试验。860樘窗抽5%随机——43樘。3.4升/分钟/㎡喷淋 配室内75Pa负压——模拟风雨。室内窗台或框内任何水都是不合格。先做 12层W-12-08。
Chamber sealed, negative pressure at 75 Pa steady. Starting water spray — 15 minutes covering the entire window including frame-to-wall joint.

Let me check the glazing gasket. (uses flashlight) Here — the glazing wedge gasket on the right side of the fixed lite has a 4mm gap at the bottom corner. The gasket wasn't cut to full length — it shrank back after installation. Water enters through that gap into the glazing pocket, then down inside the mullion to the sill. It's a gasket installation defect, not the frame seal.
我查玻璃胶条。(用手电)看这——固定玻璃右侧的楔形胶条底部角落有 4mm缝隙。胶条没裁到全长——安装后回缩了。水从这缝进入玻璃槽口、沿 竖框内侧流到窗台。是胶条安装缺陷、不是框密封问题。
Pull the glazing bead, replace the gasket, re-test. This is a 30-minute fix per window. But we should check the other 859 windows during our own pre-inspection. If one has a short gasket, there could be more. Lesson learned — always measure gasket length against the glazing perimeter before installation, not just cut to nominal dimensions.
拆压线、换胶条、重新试。每樘窗30分钟修好。但我们应该在正式试验 前自检其余859樘窗。一樘短胶条、可能还有更多。学到教训——安装前 永远按玻璃周长实测裁胶条、而不是按名义尺寸裁。
